For the sake of determining eligibility in gender designated events, World Sailing approved the ‘Transgender and Non-Binary Eligibility Policy’ at its 2024 Annual Conference, with the terms of the Policy coming into effect January 1, 2025.
It is a very involved document that seeks to protect the interests of all athletes, though its application is limited to World Sailing events, World Championships for Olympic Classes, Olympic Games, and any events used as ranking and/or qualifying events for the Olympic Games. The Policy can also be used, if desired, by other events but is not required.
It is notable that the costs of any medical assessment, examination, treatment, monitoring, reporting, and any other costs involved in complying with this Policy will be borne by the relevant athlete. However, the administration costs to execute this Policy will be borne by World Sailing.
