I am a slow adapter to new technology as each step takes me a step further from my childhood of playing in the canyon and coming home at sunset. People keep trying to make my life better, but to me the rabbit hole just gets deeper. The more I defer to electronics is the less I rely on myself. I don’t even know my kid’s phone numbers. I just push a button.
However, the Wall Street Journal tells says my iPhone has new technology that would be good on boats – satellite messaging. I could be okay with this, as when out of cell or VHF range, the iPhone 14 and newer models – with IOS 18 operating system – can still communicate. I hope I don’t need this, but maybe for others it will prevent the unnecessary use of search and rescue services. All this modern tech hasn’t done personal responsibility any favors…
