Silicon Valley guru Jim Clark, who co-founded Netscape, is making new moves in an attempt to sell his iconic 295-foot Royal Huisman Athena, which he built in 2004.
He originally listed Athena for sale in 2012, asking $95 million — in the ballpark of what venture capitalist Tom Perkins got in 2009 (about $89 million) for the 289-foot Perini Navi Maltese Falcon.
By summer 2014, Clark had relisted Athena at an asking price of $75 million with Ocean Independence.
Now, he has moved her into the brokerage division at Burgess Yachts, which is advertising Athena at an asking price of $69.9 million.
Athena is the fourth-largest sailing yacht in the world, and the largest currently for sale on the brokerage market worldwide. Burgess says the yacht represents “a rare purchasing opportunity” for “an extraordinary vessel of timeless appeal.”
Fun fact about Athena: She was the last yacht that Royal Huisman launched prior to the death of Wolter Huisman, and thus is forever entwined with his legacy in large-yacht construction.
