Sea Shepherd anti-whaling pressure said to continue; 'fill that law enforcement vacuum'

The anti-whaling group Sea Shepherd is vowing to keep the
pressure on Japan’s
whaling fleet, as the Antarctic summer draws to a close.

Its vessel, the Bob Barker, has docked in Wellington after spending more than three months trying to stop Japan from killing whales in the Southern Ocean sanctuary.

Spokesman Peter Hammarstedt says the group is buoyed by its success.

“We’re certainly ready to head back down to the southern ocean whale sanctuary next year should the Japanese whaling fleet return,” he says.

“As long as there is a lack of law enforcement down in Antarctica, then Sea Shepherd will act to fill that law enforcement vacuum.”

Sea Shepherd estimates it has prevented around 700 whales from being killed by Japan.
