There is not one path to the Olympic podium but the popular plan will be to participate in the inaugural Sailing Grand Slam (SGS) which consists of the four most iconic Olympic sailing events in Europe as well as a new regatta to be held at the Sailing venue for Los Angeles 2028.
With memories fading from the horrifically hot temperatures and light winds endured in Marseille for Paris 2024, the new quadrennial begins in Spain at the 54th edition of the Trofeo Princesa Sofia Mallorca. As the first event of the SGS, all ten sailing disciplines of the new Olympic cycle will be on the Bay of Palma from March 31 to April 5.
“Olympic sailing resumes the natural four-year cycle after the three-year sprint in Paris, which means that many of the outstanding sailors have not yet joined the new season,” explained Xisco Gil for the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation.
“But that will allow to see the new promises of each country in the ten Olympic modalities, being this an appointment that will undoubtedly show a mix between experience and youth that will allow to see a competition of the most interesting in the bay of Palma, so loved by Olympic sailors from all over the world.”
