Quicklier Film Partners, which produced MELGES: The Wizard of Zenda, has released an educational film for sailing schools. Called Lessons from the Wizard, it is an instructional film that focuses on the attitude and character of a sailor. This 50-minute video shines the spotlight on what Buddy Melges learned from the sport, and what his peers learned from him by sailing with and against him.
“As a young sailor in Lake Geneva, I learned so much from Buddy,” said Executive Producer Anne Peterson. “He made me a better sailor. But what I remember most are the life lessons he taught me. Things like learning from my losses, listening to Mother Nature, and sailing fair. That’s what Lessons from the Wizard is all about.”
Peterson hosts the video along with sailing author, TV analyst, and America’s Cup champion Gary Jobson. With support from the Schoonmaker Foundation, the film is free for download by any sailing school or nonprofit organization. Quicklier is also offering DVDs of the film for resale and fundraising. Another key partner in the project is The Sailing Foundation of New York.
