A Missouri animal control officer made a very fishy discovery last Friday morning.
When Resource Officer Jamie Schmidt peered down into a Kansas City drainage ditch she saw a gigantic 60-pound grass carp that was nearly 4-feet-long.
Schmidt said a man called her to tell her he’d discovered the scaly creature and she had to see it with her own eyes to believe it was more than a load of ‘carp.’
‘He located it and gave me a call and wanted to know if we would come out and take care of it for him,’ Schmidt said.
The fish was already dead when Schmidt arrived so she wrapped it in trash bags and dragged it into her truck, reports Kansascity.com.
‘It wasn’t too hard since it was already dead,’ she said.
‘If it had been alive, it would have been more work.’
It is believed the fish came from Persimmon Hill Lake. Schmidt said that recent heavy rains could have pushed the fish into the current as water spilled from the lake.
‘I didn’t realize my summer would be this interesting,’ said Schmidt.
