Fabrice Amedeo will therefore be at the helm of a latest generation monohull in the 2018 season, leading up to the Route du Rhum-Destination Guadeloupe. Before that, he will race for one final time aboard his faithful, old Newrest – Brioche Pasquier, lining up at the start of the Transat Jacques Vabre on 5th November with the Italian, Giancarlo Pedote at his side. He will then hand over the keys to the boat’s new owner, Romain Attanasio.
As for the new boat, after a thorough preparation phase with Antoine Mermod’s team, she will be launched in la Trinité-sur-Mer (Brittany) for some sea trials, before being delivered to Lorient, where she will spend the autumn, with her relaunch scheduled for early 2018.
Another dream
For Fabrice Amedeo, there are the two dreams come true of competing in a second Vendée Globe and the purchase of this boat. “This business challenge was possible thanks to Newrest, whose colours I will proudly be flying on the new boat, but also thanks to all my other partners, who are committed to be alongside me once again until 2021. Their support and sometimes their help to satisfy the requirements of the banks, showed me just how strong this link is that developed between us in my first Vendée Globe. I shall be going for Everest again with the desire to work hard and make progress to get up to the level of this incredible new boat, but the race aspect will not eliminate my desire to continue to relate my adventures and share the magic of ocean racing with the general public.”
Newrest, renewed loyalty
To take up this ambitious challenge and continue his adventures out on the ocean, Fabrice has from the outset been able to rely on the loyalty of his partners. At his side since 2014, the Newrest Group has decided to renew their confidence in him until the next Vendée Globe, with the aim of allowing him to sail around the world for a second time. He shares the values of the company and its 29,500 employees, which is present in 49 countries around the world. ”We’re delighted to be able to extend our partnership with Fabrice Amedeo until the 2020 Vendée Globe, which reflects how strong the long term commitment of the Newrest firm is in all its projects. The new dimension to this adventure, where innovations and determination come together, fits in perfectly with the values conveyed by all the Newrest employees in their various jobs in the catering sector,” explained Olivier Sadran, co-CEO of the Newrest Group.
