Dinghy records: Beware of butt rash

Superyacht designer Dan Lenard is preparing to break the Guinness World Record for the longest unassisted solo non-stop sailing in a dinghy. His plan is to commence in the second half of June 2025, using an ILCA 7 in the central Adriatic region.

It is not clear what the current record is, as Robert Suhay (USA) claimed in 2014 to have covered 283.5 nm, breaking the record of 282.78 nm set by Tania Elias Calles (MEX) in 2010. However, Guinness does not include Suhay in their record list. Magne Klann in 2018 sailed for 1158 nm but went ashore for overnight stops.

This feat will see Lenard sailing without assistance and without anchoring. He will sleep onboard  while underway, carrying all necessary supplies packed and secured in advance. His goal is 500 nautical miles, a journey expected to take approximately seven days.

Sailing records registered with Guinness typically do not meet the standards held by the World Sailing Speed Record Council, is the official record administer for the sport.
