Dad upset by cameraman’s account of Steve Irwin’s death; “leave it alone”

Bob Irwin told The Courier-Mail that he never wants to watch the video of the fatal stingray attack.

“I had the opportunity to see it but I chose not to watch it,” he said. “No, I never want to see it.”

Cameraman Justin Lyons fronted a national breakfast show this week to discuss Irwin’s final moments.

Mr Lyons also revealed the crocodile hunter’s final words which were: “I’m dying”.

But Bob Irwin slammed Mr Lyons, saying he should “mind his own business.”

“My personal view of that is he needs to mind his own business and leave it alone,” Mr Irwin said.

“He just wants to make some money and if I had the opportunity of speaking to him face to face I’d tell him to mind his own business and leave it alone.

“Nobody wants to go back there, nobody that’s close to the family wants to go back there and revisit that event.

“And I personally don’t think he’s got the right to do it. That’s my view on that.

It’s sad that somebody wants to do this for no other reason than to try and make some money out of it, I believe,” Mr Irwin said.

Almost eight years on since the fatal attack Mr Irwin, 74, said he has gradually come to terms with the tragedy.
