Charlie Enright named US Sailing CEO

Charlie Enright has been hired by US Sailing for their Chief Executive Officer position, replacing Alan Ostfield who left the organization in August 2024.

“Charlie offers a wealth of experience as a world-class sailor, a proven leader in sustainable practices, and a passionate advocate for growing the sport of sailing,” said Henry Brauer, President of US Sailing. “His expertise and commitment to excellence will help US Sailing continue its growth and outreach, ensuring a bright future for the sport in the U.S.”

Enright most recently led the 11th Hour Racing Team to victory in The Ocean Race 2022-23, becoming the first American team to win the round the world race. This was his third attempt after skippering Team Alvimedica (2014-15) and Vestas 11th Hour Racing (2017-18). In 2023, Enright was named the Rolex Yachtsman of the Year, and in 2024 was inducted into the Brown University Athletics Hall of Fame.

“I’m honored and excited to take on the role of CEO at US Sailing,” said Enright. “Throughout my career, I’ve been fortunate to witness the incredible impact that sailing can have on individuals, teams, and entire communities. I look forward to building on US Sailing’s legacy, working with our dedicated team to grow the sport, and ensuring that sailing remains accessible, inclusive, sustainable and fun for generations to come.”

As the organization’s leader, Enright will work closely with the Board of Directors, professional staff, and volunteers to develop and implement US Sailing’s goals, support membership and fundraising initiatives, manage a multitude of programming and partnerships, and provide strategic leadership to grow the sport of sailing across the U.S.

“We are thrilled to have Charlie at the helm of US Sailing,” said Brian Keane, Acting Chair of the US Sailing Foundation. “His vision, experience, and passion for the sport will be invaluable as we work to expand the reach of sailing and ensure its continued success in the U.S.”

Enright was born and raised in Bristol, Rhode Island, a town where his grandfather used to build cruising boats. He graduated from Brown University with a degree in Business and Economics in 2008 and currently resides in Barrington, Rhode Island, with his wife, Meris, and their two children.
