A WILDLIFE photographer took this stunning underwater snap of a shark – when the creature bumped into his camera.
Brave Will Clark leaned over the side of a boat off the coast off Penzance, Cornwall, after the captain had dragged a mackerel head through the water as bait.
He was delighted when the inquisitive blue shark collided with his camera just as he pushed the shutter button.
Talented Will said: “The captain had just pulled a fresh mackerel head on a thin rope out of the water and the overexcited shark collided with my camera as I pressed the shutter.
“Later we got in the water with them but on that trip I didn’t get any images as dramatic as this one.
“People ask if I’m mad to go snorkelling with sharks, but they’re not the mindless, vicious creatures they’ve been portrayed as.
“They might occasionally bump you with their sensitive snouts to learn what you are made of.
“I had one bump my thigh with its jaw open, but it didn’t bite down, there wasn’t even a mark on my wetsuit, it was a very gentle animal.
“I’d be honest I wouldn’t want to do this without a wetsuit on – their teeth are very sharp, even if they’re just checking you out.
“I hope that my photos of these beautiful creatures will persuade people to want to know more about them, to learn that they need protection.”
Will, from Street, Somerset, was ten miles south of Penzance when he saw the blue shark which likes cool waters this summer.
The animals migrate across the Atlantic sea each year, and many pass by the tip of Cornwall in central summer.
