A well-earned post Vendée Globe refit

What happens after the solo skippers in the 2024-25 Vendée Globe cross the finish line in Les Sables d’Olonne, France? For Boris Herrmann (GER), his IMOCA yacht Malizia – Seaexplorer is back into the shed for a well-earned post race refit:

After the race at sea, the rhythm doesn’t change, another race begins on land.

The objective: to clean, repair, and replace, in other words, to get Malizia – Seaexplorer back in shape for the 2025 season. This time, with The Ocean Race Europe on the horizon this summer, we are shifting our focus back to crewed racing. It’s time to transform our solo vessel into a high-speed, crewed racing machine!

After emptying and cleaning the boat, Antoine Robert (in charge of logistics) collected all the remaining food bags. The purpose of taking inventory is to compare what was loaded for this Vendée Globe with what Boris consumed the most and the least, what kept best, and to assess what was in excess or missing to improve future provisioning. – Full report

The Vendée Globe, raced in the 60-foot IMOCA, is the elite race round the world, solo, non-stop, and without assistance. On November 10, 40 skippers started the 2024-25 edition which begins and ends in Les Sables d’Olonne, France.

Armel Le Cléac’h, winning in 2017, previously held the record for the 24,300 nm course of 74 days 03 hours 35 minutes 46 seconds. Only one sailor has won it twice: Michel Desjoyeaux in 2001 and 2009. This is tenth running of the race.
