New leader at Star Midwinters

Miami, FL (February 9, 2018) – Star sailors were blessed with a beautiful day of racing on Biscayne Bay during day two of the Star Midwinters. The fleet sailed long 1.6 mile beats, where playing the shifts was key to being at the top of today’s racing.

Augie Diaz (USA)/ Bruno Prada (BRA) inched in front of Jack Jennings (USA)/ Frithjof Kleen (GER) just before the first windward mark and demonstrated good speed in the breeze and waves downwind to take the lead and the win. The second race was tight between Jennings and Kleen and Paul Cayard (USA), sailing with young reigning world champion crew, Josh Revkin (USA). Diaz and Prada were close behind, finishing the second race in third.

The Irish brothers, Peter and Robert O’Leary, held their own with a third and a ninth today, maintaining their position in second overall. The big movers today were Jørgen Schönherr / Jan Eli Gravad (DEN) that dropped from their lead after day one to sixth place and Jennings / Kleen rise from fourth to first overall.

As part of the Star Winter Series, racing continues through Sunday, February 11.
